Scary, scary times

Boston news is focused today with arrests of 2 suspected terrorists, in connection with the attempted bombing in NY recently and investigation led to other states, NJ and MA.  You turn on your TV for some catch-up news in the morning, turn the radio while picking up the kids- the news is the same, very scary. Eventhough the governor has assured that there is no imminen danger for the people of  MA, the presence of all the representatives of safety agencies, is a scary thought.

You hear it everyday... bombing in the Middle East,  airplane crash in Poland, massacre in the Philippines, rape of a child in Bronx NY,  foreclosure everywhere, economic collapse, alarming rate of divorce,  political instability in Thailand, drug cartels in South America, teen pregnancies in Europe and extreme poverty in Africa. I see a very dark future when I hear all of these. My heart wrenches.

Today, we were traversing the usual route, KC said, " i hate it when we pass by here, Mom." I asked her why and she said it is because of the panhandlers. They swarm the intersections especially with the spring weather. She added that by the time she can, she will have a charity to help these people.

KC: Mom, when I can, I will have charity so I can help them
Me: ***smiles*** sure Hon, that would be great
KC: I will name it " Everybody deserves a second Chance"

I know that this is just a random thought of a 9 year old girl, but do you remember our youth, when we were all filled with youthful idealism, we all wanted to save the world, when we hated the politics that went with the unveiling of so called donations, when in fact these were by taxpayers money?  Have you noticed how all these youthful desires have vanished due to our own inability to sustain what really matters? I know deep inside each one of us, we are scared and we all want to do what is best for our children, but no matter what
you do invividually won't matter if we do not work together. You may keep them inside your home, to be safe, send them to the best schools, send them with bodyguards--- bottomline, we are all not safe unless we rid the world of poverty, inequality and greed.

On a more personal experience, I hated it when I saw the hospital ambulance in our town being used by the mayor's kids as personal service! The nerve! Shame! I cringed everytime I see them in those cars knowing they have no other income except the money they are pocketing from the government. Glorious God, what are they thinking? To add insult to injury, the people are poor! Times could have changed, politics changed, and I am hoping my townspeople will benefit from theses changes, if any.

I pray for my new government and  newly elected public servants (  yes, you are, so behave!). I pray that they focus on what is essential for the people now - jobs, education and public safety. Locally ( my town, Aparri), I pray that Mayor Tumaru will address the issue of sand mining. I know the good mayor personally, and it is my call for this to stop. I know I am far away and that I have no political clout at all but I do hope that by publicly asking for this through this blog, may  at least generate one person reading this to whisper to the mayor my heart's desire. I am sure, with his good heart and forward thinking, he knows the value of the environment, coming from a fisherman's family.

Closer to home, in Boston MA, I pray that whoever plans any terrorist attacks realize that life is precious, whether you are Muslim, Christian or atheist we are all one being.... we belong to one race - humankind!
