KC's Snow White School Play

My daughter KC was chosen as one of the 2 to play Snow White for their school's play. I know she auditioned for it and she worked hard to memorize her lines. They ended up having 2 shows--- one for parents and the other for the kids at school. I usually have no sched conflicts because they do it in the morning but this time, they had the parents' show in the evening----yup, you guessed it. I am messed up again. I need to be at work those hours. Those who are  new reading this blog and not know that I work 3pm-11pm, I will spare you my usual crappy complaints but you need to know, this is not good for me. The show is at 6? Wowzee? I guess I am an anomaly in the scheduling world so I guess I need to just shrug it off. I was able to make a couple of switches at work to make it--not that I would have not gone if they did not allow me. For goodness sake---this is my kid and I need to be there---work is secondary, right? Hahahah. You should come work at my place and see how.... blah blah blah...

Can I just tell you? These kids worked hard and boy, were they good! No, not good--- they were awesome! Unbelievable!  I  was there early because I volunteered to do the make-up. What was I thinking? Working 2 shifts (3pm-7am ) then going to school at 430pm to do the make-up? Well, what do you know?  I have gained so much from that volunteer job. I saw why my daughter loves this after school program. The kids are great, the teachers are dedicated--- you can feel they enjoy each other and that they like what they are doing. There were a few smiles and a whole lot of giggling while putting make-up on---the boys all needed make-up and you can only imagine the fun they had. Being surrounded by kids is the most awesome feeling. Yes, you may need to ask them to tone the noise down a little, or you may have to tell them to stop teasing but the joy you feel is beyond explanation. These group of kids are exceptional--- the teachers were saying how they struggled in the beginning and as they went along, knowing each other, building confidence and enjoying their time together-- there was so much progress and you can see it in the camaraderie they have developed.

And so, I did make-up with another parent volunteer and I love it. KC and all the girls were lovely and a joy to be with. The boys? They are the most game!!! No hesitations whatsoever! Professional! I  love them all. It was so much fun---more fun than I thought. Maybe because I was relieving my high school days.... maybe....

Anyway, here are the pictures and I hope you like them...

The seven dwarves... they are so funny. I can't tell you how much the
younger kids laughed  with their antics...

The forest animals. This group is so funny while I was putting make-up. They asked me to make them look  really good because they are animals. Funny.

The mirror and the "very vain" Queen
Snow White and the animals with the dwarves' little house.

The Queen and her evil spirits
The "possessed Queen"  and the spirits

The Queen tricking Snow White
Finally, the Prince kissed Snow White....
Snow White(s) marrying the Prince

The best theater group  ever. Even if they are neophytes, I love their super close relationship.

BFF(s) Enie, Carol and Karmina. Funny how KC's two best buds are the Queens---Vain  and Evil.
I can't tell you how lucky I am to have my very own Snow White-- my own slice of royalty. I am fortunate to have KC because she is sweet and intelligent. She works hard and is very persistent. I love how everyone seems to like her in school and I told her how one parent told me she is everybody's crush in school---boy , did she hate that. She's like--- "Mom, please don't call me popular or famous." I told her that's what the teachers and parents tell me and she's like, ok, let;'s just say I am well liked. See, she does not like to be calle popular, she says on TV shows she watches, popular girls are always the meanies and not-so-intelligent. So she does not like to be popular. Oh, boy, I wanted to be popular... NOT!

 The two Snow Whites

Here's our usual crew--- the Llaga(s). I love it when family gives you so much importance and love. Isn't that what family is suppose to be?
And can you tell me if you find  any cuter baby than this little munchkin? My grandnephew Joey is my kids favorite...
Mr. Hubbs and my Snow White.
After the show, the family headed to --- where else? EAT! We went to Minado !! Yeebah. And we all live happily ever after. The End.

Tuesday Half-day

I don't know if  I shared it with you already but my city made Tuesdays half days----weird I know. What about Friday? They must have their own good reason. Anyway, as my schedule permits, we would do different stuff--- grab ice cream, go shopping, visit the library or just hang out in the house. What else is there to do, anyway?

So yesterday, this is what we did.

Had lunch at Subway---

Joshua is addicted to Subway-- he said it is healthy. He probably is the only 8 year old you meet where he checks the calory printouts in meals. They found the kid's meal packaging colorful  and interesting because it was supposed to be for "conservation", the Llaga kids are big on that. Conserve---- conserve!!! Saving Mother Earth. They begged me to get it and I finally gave in because they have been wonderful kids, besides, KC just finished her MCAS and I think she deserves a treat.

Weekend edition- 5/14 2011

Hello there! Nothing much going on here on the Llaga household---which is good. We have been very busy and my imaginary savings account is very much in need of some moolah ( money). Where it is coming from, I do not know. On to my weekend story, I know you need not know about my inadequate knowledge of finances.

My niece Fridah and I went to Chinatown last Wednesday to try out the Japanese hair rebonding. Maggie, the stylist was a pleasure. She is so funny and knowledgeable.

Here's me with the new hair. Wait I should do a before photo, and please excuse my blotted? face.
Before/ already blowdried and hot ironed

After-waking up like this in the a.m.---NICE
I love waking up with this nice hair, but I feel like I love some bounce too. But, we'll see.

So Friday, I worked double shift ( again?) 3pm Friday up to 7am Saturday. I needed so much sleep and rest because it was very busy on the night shift but that was not to be. Got home, was greeted by two beautiful kids in the kitchen ( josh and Ice), and they wanted to go to IHOP or Friendly's. How can you say NO to 2 adorable kiddos? Of course you don't! You say, "go get dressed, and we'll head on." Yeah, that's what you say even if you are feeling so ill. So ill. You just don't say NO. Never.

But it's all good. Here they are.

I don't know but I feel like these feet won't be this tiny that long and that they probably don't want to spend time with me, much more wake up early to go out for breakfast anymore, so I am savoring these moments. Forget Sleep, it's overrated and I will let Sleep reenter my life some other time. You with me?

After breakfast, we all went home and I slept, I mean half slept. Is there such a thing? I was half asleep because how can I sleep with theses kids IN the house?  But I managed to pull myself out of the sofa ( yeah, I sleep on the couch, can't bring myself upstairs.) to go see some friends for a graduation party of my "anak" ( daughter), Errah. I am so proud of her. Full time student/full time work. Way to go pretty girl!!!

Then off to go to work again at 11pm Saturday night. Are you still following my sched? Get it? Me too, I forget the days sometimes. Time is not relevant to me. I just know I nedd to haul myself to work ALL.THE.TIME.
It was not as busy as Friday night but still, doing blood gases for a whole shift is still  a whole sh*t. Naah, I am just kidding. I do love what I do and the crew Saturday is just awesome----makes for an easier load.

Sunday morning I slept till I can, which means I need to wake up to go to mass at 1030. See now, come home from Saturday night shift at about 8am, then sleep? only to be rudely awakened by the alarm ( Mr. Hubbs) to go to mass. Of course you get up. Going to mass is not what you give up if you work night shift. It's just not. You give up sleep. Yeah, that's what you do. LOL.

Here's the usual crew---less SisSol and RN Eric.
I love Ice' yellow dress. Uber pretty. Then off we go to----- where else? Off we go to eat!!! Pho Hoa in Quincy is a regular Sunday eat out, so we head out there. PS... SisSol, we miss you!
After Pho, I had to return some items at Macy's and to deal with AT&T, so I head on to the mall. By the way, I hate you AT&T, you and Customer Service should be reintroduced. Oh I know you don't get along well. I get it, so just get out of the customer service oriented business, shall we? GET OUT!

After all the running around, my crew is tired and bored with ME. You see, I am not a good person after meeting with Evil AT&T. So they decided to have ice cream at the mall, darn NO.

One scoop is $3.75 and you have to pay the cone separately---the cheapest is $3.50. No way is this Thrifty Mama paying that much. The name of the shoppe escapes me right now, but don't go. Way too expensive.

SO off we go to--- Mobil Gas (hahahahha) and fill up on the cheap.

Here is an example of what happens in the car when it's "you can eat in the car day".

Hahhaha, my family is funny. We go crazy on little treats. BTW, you-can-eat-in-the-car day rarely happens. It is as they would say once in a blue moon. You have to remember Mr. Hubbs is OCD, clean freak! Which is good for me. I mess up with my paints, projects, books, clothes---he cleans up. We are in.a.very.good.relationship. VhE-RrY GOOD.

Side story--- Joshua was commenting on the stuffed toy of Ice saying we had the male version of it---SIMBA. Ice quickly asks, "where'd you get it, GOODWILL?" Ahahhaah. We are so cheap! Goodwill. Don't you love my family?

We decided to eat whatever we can't finish in the car at Wollaston Beach. Although it is raining and gloomy, it is not very cold. So off we go. I loved taking their pictures, they hate me for it.

Spot Ice' stuffed toy? Certainly not from Goodwill. Hahahha. I love them darn kids.

Just one more reason we can't have a pet. That would mean our visits to the beaches will be limited. You know me, I am a water baby. I must be a fish in my past life. You can leave me in the water all day, pretend you forgot all about  me and I'd still be friends with you at the end of the day.

This is how we roll, we go to the beach with flat shoes and then we lose balance and smile after.
Go on, that was just off balance for a little bit, right Mamu? Of course, you can still go.
See, we smile. A whole lot of smiling and laughing in this family.

From now on, I will add to my lookbook---yellow and pink is pretty. See Ice shoes? So pretty.

It is really gloomy, almost dreary but I still love the sound of the water. Just the sight of water and stones/rocks calms me. Does it do the same thing to you?
Well, especially if you have somebody asking you what kind of shell is every shell in  the seashore. "Ice, i am good, but not that good." Hahahhahha. You see, a beautiful scenery is made much more beautiful if you have beautiful kids with you.
And then, the snail. We saw some snails. The kids are always investigating every.single.thing. Like, everything? Yeah, ev-reh-thang!
Do you notice the seaweeds on the shore? I do. While we passed by the stones, Ice said the green stuff is SLIMY. I told her to be careful and then she said,
Ice: Ate KC told me you eat seaweeds?
Me: Ummm, yeah.
Ice: Ewwww
Me: Why eeeew?
Ice: Just eeew.
Me: Did she really say I eat seaweeds?
Ice: yeah, she did, yes she did.
Me: You eat seaweeds?
Ice: eeeew.
END of conversation. HAHHahh. Very eye opening. I should be more non Filipino in my eating, for the sake of the kids' harrasment for my eeew eating choices.

I think KC thinks she's in trouble that's why she is pretending not to hear us? What do you think?

Well, everything is fine,  these 2 girls crack me up. Here they are cold yet smiling on the camera.
KC: Mom, this weather is not good for paparazzi---it's cold, can we just go back to the car?
Me: Just one more honey please?

And I wonder why they hate my blog.
I was suddenly nostalgic seeing Ice do this. We used to do this back in the province. When it rains, we all go to the streets, and play under the heavy rains. We love it, then after the rain we "luglog" in the water paddle. It's pretty much what Ice is doing here in this picture. Oh, I love reminiscing the good old days. If you are Ilokano, do you what tarindanum is in English. That's what my Tatang used to tell us if we play in muddy water, we would get tarindanum. Hmmm. Can you help me?
 Someone left their shoes? Intentional?
Meanwhile---all these are going on while Mr. Hubbs is IN the car. Sitting.in.the.car. Why am I not surprised?
There'll be way too many people in the beach by summer so we are enjoying it now that only locals are here.

Surprise, surprise.... when we got home, looksie who visits?
Lovely isn't it? The kids were ecstatic. They were guessing where the slowpoke snail would be tomorrow.
While writing this blog, we ended up watching The Sorcerer's Apprentice on Netflix. Yay!!! Iove me some Netflix!

I should be sleeping now. What about you? How do you spend your weekend with family? Bye and happy weekend beautiful people.
